Nuclear Fools Day in Melbourne, 1st April 2007

On Palm Sunday, 1st April 2007, nearly one hundred groups and organisations combined to hold a peace parade and anti-nuclear demonstration in Melbourne under the title 'Nuclear Fools Day'; similar events took place across Australia.

The compulsive way in which dominant societies demand compliance and assimilation with their systems has been destructive to so many Indigenous cultures and their land globally.

The premise of the film is that peace starts at home, or conversely that terror starts at home and uses humour to highlight the theme. This film is from SEDITIOUS INTENT, a compilation of films inspired by Australia’s Anti-Terrorism Bill - some sad, some funny, some downright shocking. Dissent is an essential part of democracy. But under the Anti-Terrorism legislation, the right to oppose or challenge the State is significantly compromised.

About the fight to save the Weld forest from woodchipping. The Weld pirate ship has protected this pristine valley for more than a year but recenly Forestry Tasmania have smashed their way through, building a 3 km road into this valley in preparation of their clearfell operations in early 07. This movie documents the beauty of the forests and the courage of those fighting to protect it. Chapter 1 contains footage of the Weld Valley from the air.
