A majority of Queenslanders are undoubtedly amused by the continued power struggle in republic groups over what should, and should not, be part of their republic agenda.

NEWS RELEASE

Monday 24 May 2004

The Republican Party, supposedly the political arm of republic supporters, wants, among other thing, to abolish the States and change the Australian flag. Both of these proposals are as welcome as a black snake in a sleeping bag to most thinking Australians.

The Australian Republican Movement, who, incidentally, represent the silver-tail elitists of the combined major political parties and their multinational mates, want to change Australia's Constitution, which would surrender even more power to an already unaccountable bunch of politicians in Canberra.

Neither of these groups, nor any of the other splintered 'watermelon' republic groups, are able to offer Australians anything near the protections and safeguards of our current tried, proven, and envied, Westminster system of government, which are guaranteed by our Constitution.

The only one thing that all republic groups have in common, is their inability to explain to the Australian people what benefits, if any, would flow-on as a result of their forlorn scheme to downgrade Australia's world-acclaimed democracy.
