Banking giants ANZ and ABN-Amro funding destruction

Hi, my name is Beau and I'm currently onboard the Esperanza in my home country the Philippines. There is an island here called Rapu Rapu with an open pit mine extracting a range of different metals using highly toxic cyanide. This Australian owned mining operation was recently reopened despite toxic spills causing fish kills and environmental damage. We have just received new information that names the banks that are funding the operation of this mine and the destruction of the environment of Rapu Rapu.

*Banking giants funding destruction*

Hi, my name is Beau and I'm currently onboard the Esperanza in my home country the Philippines. There is an island here called Rapu Rapu with an open pit mine extracting a range of different metals using highly toxic cyanide. This Australian owned mining operation was recently reopened despite toxic spills causing fish kills and environmental damage. We have just received new information that names the banks that are funding the operation of this mine and the destruction of the environment of Rapu Rapu.

When we arrived at the mine, our ship joined around 70 local outrigger boats in a protest against the mine. Many of these boats carried banners calling for banks financing the mine, ABN-Amro and ANZ, to pull their funding. These local people are justifiably outraged. The rich marine ecosystem they rely on for food and their livelihood is being destroyed for the profit of far off multinational companies.

Join with the people of Rapu Rapu and tell the banks backing this toxic mine to stop funding destruction. [ http://www.email.greenpeace.org/soobn_bzghhkz.html ]

*The future of maize under question*
------------------------------------------------------------

Mexico is the home of maize (corn) and has around 200 different varieties growing locally. But companies like Monsanto and Dow are trying to pressure Mexico to allow them to contaminate this natural diversity with GE maize. We joined with local farmers in Mexico and sent a message by creating a huge crop circle in the shape of a question mark in a maize field to highlight the dangers of GE contamination. You can send your own message to Mexican President Vicente Fox to ensure the home of maize remains GE free. [ http://www.email.greenpeace.org/lwwhk_bzghhkz.html ]

*Stop the clocks on Deep Sea destruction*
------------------------------------------------------------

After two years of governments promising to take "urgent action" to protect deep sea life, nothing has happened. We've started a count down for governments to act and publicly support the moratorium and to "stop-the-clock" on deep sea destruction. Many governments have so far failed to follow the advice of almost 1500 scientists from 69 countries, NGOs, a growing number of countries and now the UN itself. Help to stop the clock on deep sea destruction. [ http://www.email.greenpeace.org/thhlc_bzghhkz.html ]
