Beyond Law and Order Populism: Launch of the Smart Justice Campaign 2006

The Federation of Community Legal Centres, VCOSS and the Victorian Criminal Justice Coalition present:

Beyond Law and Order Populism: Launch of the Smart Justice Campaign 2006

Punitive law and order or 'tough on crime' policies have negative impacts upon society. Law and order populism divides communities. It leads to higher levels of community conflict and criminalises marginalised communities.

This public forum will explore these impacts and alternatives and launch Operation Smart Justice, a strategic mobilisation to counter law and order populism during the 2006 Victorian state election.

Speakers include :

Fr Peter Norden: Victorian Criminal Justice Coalition.

Cath Smith: Victorian Council of Social Services

Ruth Liston: researcher, Control of Anti-Social Behaviour: Policy implications for Victoria

The Smart Justice Campaign is calling upon all community organisations and individuals concerned about social justice and human rights to get involved!
