AUCKLAND (ARENA/Pacific Media Watch): An alternative forum will address "past and present practices of colonisation" in New Zealand and the Pacific tomorrow, coinciding with the start of the Pacific Islands Forum's economic ministers summit in Rotorua.

Robert Reid, spokesperson for the Action Research and Education Network of Aotearoa (ARENA), said the colonisation forum had been timed for the ministers' meeting.

The forum at Huranga Marae will hear from several New Zealand and Pacific speakers, including Ngati Pikiao lawyer Annette Sykes, University of the South Pacific academics Professor Vijay Naidu and Dr Claire Slatter, and Professor Jane Kelsey from Auckland University.

Prof Kelsey will discuss her recent report on the Pacific Free Trade Agreements, entitled Big Brother Behaving Badly.

Copies of this report will be available at the forum and will be delivered to all Pacific Islands Economic Ministers in Rotorua during the week.
