The disappearance of Rense.com

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 14/02/2007 - 06:24

Dear Alternative News Network,
This is a simple request for you to investigate and report on the sudden disappearance of http://www.rense.com, another great alternative and internet radio website in the US. I am sure you would be aware of it's existence as it has linked many of this sites stories on it's own.

It has now been down for four days now and I am wondering if the "Powers that be" have scuttled it and if the same fate awaits many other alternative news sites.

Could you please investigate this possible far reaching disappearing act.

Kind Regards,

Anon in TAS

At the usual haunt - www.rense.com . The following message appears at the top of the page:

"Rense.com experienced a rare, total main drive failure and destruction, and complete loss of server function on Friday, February 9. The resultant unprecedented interruption of service has been beyond endurance for everyone. We profoundly appreciate the enormous outpouring of heartfelt concern, and countless offers of support, from around the world. We now return to offering the best independent journalism on the net, and with your kind forbearance will be restoring all necessary files to the site over the next couple of days. Rumors of our demise were greatly exaggerated. You're the best - and we're more than honored to have your trust and confidence. So, hang in there while we bring everything fully back up to speed."

Server upgrade purported to be the problem

I subscribe to the Rense newsletter and have not received any bulletin on this matter so far.

However, I followed a link from their last newsletter which leads to their Rense forum on Ezyboard.Com. A posting has appeared on the Rense forums in the "General Discussions" section. It is posted by the "Rense Webmaster" and reads as follows:

____________

Rense.com is currently experiencing a totally unexpected hard drive problem which took place during a major server upgrade, one which will tremendously enhance the entire Rense.com experience ...and establish superior security. Thanks to you, the site is growing exponentially and with such massive expansion comes occasional inconvenience and unexpected events like we are currently experiencing. We are doing everything possible to restore full service and expect to be back up with at least partial operations today. We greatly appreciate your patience as we re-establish your access to the world's number one net site for alternative news and information.

Rest assured, the current down-time issue is being resolved as quickly as humanly possible...

Best wishes and our highest regards,

Jeff Rense

An initial investigation reveals that that the company hosting http://www.rense.com/ may have gone bust... None of their published servers currently respond.

Some other sites previously hosted by thehostpros.com have already appeared on the servers of other hosting companies. Try http://www.greatdreams.com/ for example who still advertise that their site is served by http://thehostpros.com/ .

Hopefully Jef Rense has 'off site' backups of his site that will allow him to set up with another hosting company. An other scenario would be unimaginable by most.
