"This cover up, involving the late submission of written answers and the refusal for Major O'Kane to appear before the inquiry, further sullies Australia's reputation in the world," Senator Brown said.

"Mr Howard made Australian Defence Force personnel subject to US command in Iraq. He must personally accept responsibility for the O'Kane scandal."

Senator Brown also criticised the Opposition in the Senate for failing to subpoena Major O'Kane to the Senate estimates hearings in June.
