(PNEWS) Proud to Kill and other Stories..

Proud of his three kills - Wilks is a sniper and is proud of the three 'kills' he has notched up in the first six months of his year's tour of duty. The first came in early April, during an assault on a position held by Shia militiamen...Killing from long distance is 'weird', says Wilks, who joined the army after six years as a poorly paid waiter. 'It's not like in a firefight, when it is really scary and you don't think about it. When you are looking down the scope and no one knows you are there, it gives you a sense of power. You get an adrenalin rush, though I'm not sure if it is in a good way.' Proud to Kill

Where's George Orwell when we need him? - Because we Americans need him. We desperately need him. Consider: in August 2001, immediately after reading a memo entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in US", President George Bush went bass fishing - and never called a meeting to discuss the issue....A month later, on September 11, when he was told that the terrorists had attacked, Bush spent the next seven minutes reading a children's book, The Pet Goat, with a group of school children. His campaign says vote Republican or die - but he lets al-Qaida off the hook

Jobless President - Unless one million jobs are created in the next two months, the president will head into Election Day as the first president since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs under his watch...This economy is missing the self-sustaining mechanism of consumer spending. With all due respect to economists everywhere, our economy is good only when consumers declare it such through their willingness to spend money. But as wages decline, so does the consumer spending needed to sustain the economy.Economy is in recovery, says Bush, as thousands leave work

How many lies can one political convention hold? - Kerry never said we need to have a "sensitive war." (Bonus points if you can find Bush's references to our need for more sensitivity.) Kerry never said we need other countries' permission to go to war. Kerry has never failed to "support our troops in combat." ...The whole list of defense programs Kerry supposedly voted against mostly came out of one vote against a huge defense package in 1990. He supported a smaller package, as did then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney.... The United States has not gained jobs under George Bush. The net job loss is 1.1 million jobs, according to the Bush Department of Labor... So how many lies?

The Dishonesty Thing: The real issue in the National Guard story isn't what George W. Bush did three decades ago. It's the recent pattern of lies: his assertions that he fulfilled his obligations when he obviously didn't, the White House's repeated claims that it had released all of the relevant documents when it hadn't... It's the same pattern of dishonesty, this time involving personal matters that the public can easily understand, that some of us have long seen on policy issues, from global warming to the war in Iraq. On budget matters, which is where I came in, serious analysts now take administration dishonesty for granted. Pattern of Lies

Liar's Club - We are a nation filled with high-paid liars: politicians, lobbyists, spin doctors, press secretaries, White House correspondents. Most of their lies are not Platonic "noble lies" told to safeguard social harmony. Most are intended to ignobly deceive. In the process, they do irreparable harm to the body politic.....In that spirit, the Republican National Convention last week was a veritable Liars Club. It was willful deception as party platform. - Republicans hoist their banner of deception

Compassionate GOPers Beat Protestors - Speaking from New York after being released from police custody, AIDS activist Mark Milano told the World that he and fellow protesters at a Republican National Convention event on Sept. 1 were nonviolent, but that the Young Republicans who set upon them acted "like mad dogs." Violent Young Republicans

Russian ties with West Sour: Russia's President Vladimir Putin has used strong words to reject calls from the West for negotiations with Chechen rebel representatives. "Why don't you invite Osama Bin Laden to talks in Brussels or the White House?" he asked

Bush Leads Kerry - US President George W Bush has raced much ahead of his Democratic presidential rival John Kerry with a solid 52 to 43 per cent lead, a new poll said in Washington. - Bush now has solid lead over Kerry

Sharp Increase in Social Security Costs - Democrat John Kerry said Saturday that a record increase in Medicare premiums for doctor visits was another failed promise from President Bush. --- The Bush administration announced a day earlier that monthly premiums for a portion of the program for the elderly and disabled will rise $11.60 next year, to $78.20. The 17 percent increase is the largest in the program's 40-year history. Kerry also blamed the Bush administration for driving up health care costs with its refusal to let Medicare negotiate lower-price drug purchases and its opposition to people buying cheaper medications in Canada. - Kerry Rips Bush over Medicare Cost Increase

BUSH ATTACKED NAT'L GUARD SERVICE OF OTHERS - The White House is currently attacking those who raise questions about President Bush's National Guard record. They say the questions about Bush's failure to fulfill his commitment are "dirty politics."

(1) Yet a look at the record shows that it was President George H.W. Bush - and his top campaign strategist George W. Bush - who tried to smear the National Guard and military record of their opponents.... As reported in the August 23, 1988 Los Angeles Times, then Vice President George H.W. Bush's campaign co-chairman John Sununu went on national television to impugn an opponent's dealings with the National Guard during Vietnam. Sununu specifically claimed Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) had improperly helped get his son into the Texas National Guard during Vietnam. Bentsen's son served in the very same National Guard unit at the very same time as George W. Bush. The Bush campaign's attacks came just days after Bush's allies on Capitol Hill launched a vicious attack on Gov. Michael Dukakis (D-MA) for receiving a draft deferment during the Korean War.

(2) ... At the time of the coordinated attack, George W. Bush was serving as a senior adviser to his father's campaign.

For 1,000 Troops, There Is No Going Home: - Dixie Codner had a question for the marines who came down her gravel road, past the rows of corn and alfalfa, to tell her that her 19-year-old son, Kyle, had been killed in Iraq. Should she bring them the dress blues, still pressed and hanging neatly in his closet, for his funeral? No need, she recalled them answering. They had dress uniforms from all the services, all sizes, waiting back at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where the bodies of American service members come home. - No Coming Home

Bush Unfit: - " NANTUCKET, Massachusetts Roaring back at his Republican rivals, Senator John Kerry has called President George W. Bush "unfit to lead this nation" for "misleading" America into war in Iraq, and he accused Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney of having avoiding combat during the Vietnam War...For the past week, they attacked my patriotism and my fitness to serve as commander-in-chief," Kerry said in prepared remarks issued on Thursday night.....Well, here's my answer," Kerry said. "I'm not going to have my commitment to defend this country questioned by those who refused to serve when they could have and by those who have misled the nation into Iraq." George Bush is Unfit

Stop Bush! - George Bush really enjoys what he is doing. He says he really likes his job. I can see how he would relish what he is doing when he is manic - because manic-depressives have moments of high euphoria.

Manic-Depressives are classic flip-floppers..."It's a fantastic moment in my life, obviously. There's a lot of ups and downs. There's a lot of high drama and not much calm so far. But I've enjoyed doing it, to the point where I'd like to do it again." ...George Bush is certainly upbeat publicly. He says the economy is surging and the recession, which he says he inherited, is over. He doesn't dwell on the jobs lost; he emphasizes 1.5 million lower paying jobs created; not NET jobs lost, not the 2.7 million people who lost jobs in the the Bush recession, nor does he ever mention he also inherited a surplus and no deficits. -- George W. Bush Flip Flopper

Great Socialist Dream - More than 100,000 Jews were murdered by the anti-Semitic (anti-communist) White armies during the Civil War in Russia in 1918-20 because the Russian, Ukrainian and Semites held the Jews responsible for the Russian Revolution, the role Trotsky and the Jews played was more than one quarter of the membership all the revolutionary parties in Russia during this period. Of all the political prisoners deported to Siberia after the defeat of the Revolution of 1905, 37% were Jews. -- Jewish Socialist Conspiracy
