A Statewide clubs campaign will push to break last year's record to raise more money for children who are seriously ill or have physical disabilities.

Deputy Premier, Treasurer & Sport, Terry Mackenroth

The Acting Premier, Mr Terry Mackenroth, today joined cricket great Allan Border in Brisbane to launch this year's Clubs Smile for a Child campaign.

Mr Mackenroth said RSL, leagues, sports and community clubs all over the State would sell fundraising items, as well as organise fundraising events, between July and November this year to help raise money for children in their region.

"Clubs Smile for a Child is a fundraising and public awareness campaign run by Clubs Queensland to raise money for charitable organisations," Mr Mackenroth said.

"Last year, the campaign raised over $241,000 for the Starlight Children's Foundation and that success has meant that Clubs Queensland can now share the funds raised this year equally between two charities - the Starlight Children's Foundation and MontroseAccess.

"Every dollar raised through this year's campaign will enable these charities to help brighten the lives of ill children and children with physical disabilities.

"These charities have identified more than 100 children situated in towns and suburbs across Queensland who would benefit greatly from receiving a special Starlight wish or therapy and support from MontroseAccess.

"With the launch of the Clubs Smile for a Child campaign today, the clubs industry has the opportunity to raise money for these vital causes and to also show the difference clubs make in their communities.

"All funds raised in a region are guaranteed to stay in that region."

As official ambassador, Allan Border will appear in a number of advertisements to promote the fundraiser.

Clubs can sell 'wobblers' (paper faces which turn from a frown into a smile) and smiley pens or hold fundraising events during the campaign.
