Minister for the Arts Anna Bligh said Arts Queensland Small Grants allowed local artists and arts groups to apply for grants of up to $4,999 to develop a diverse range of arts and cultural projects.

"Small Grants provide the opportunity for Queensland artists and arts workers to explore new ideas and new projects, reach new audiences and develop new skills," Ms Bligh said.

"Projects in this round include working with young people experiencing disability and disadvantage, developing skills with a respected American music producer, creating new performances and showcasing their talents internationally.

"The grants provide artists and arts workers with help to kick-start a project, visual arts or performance program, upgrade their skills, reach new audiences and bring local communities together to work on cultural events.

"This continuing support for the state's arts and cultural sector provides jobs for artists and arts workers and ensures Queensland is a vibrant centre for the arts, rich in diversity and experiences."

This latest Small Grants round closed on 28 May 2004. Applicants are notified of the outcomes after a processing and assessment period.

Arts Queensland offers 11 Small Grants rounds a year for amounts up to $4,999, with the closing date for applications falling on the last business day of each month except December.

In 2004, artists and cultural workers can apply for project funding for Arts and Cultural Projects; Business, Market and Audience Development; Community Cultural Development; and Professional Development.
