The Working with Men Training Course

This email is to let you know the latest news and training information from the UnitingCare Burnside Training Program. If you do not wish to receive occasional emails about training activities, then please send a reply email requesting "Cancel Emails" in the subject line.

The training course will focus on:

* Exploring the social and emotional challenges that impact on men in their personal and family relationships.
* Exploring how power, violence, and suicide affect men's lives.
* The challenges men face in moving towards mutuality and equality in relationships.
* The changing of male social and work-related roles.
* The diversity of men who experience different socio-cultural and sexual challenges.
* Exploring the challenges in providing support services for men.

The trainees will have the option of being assessed for the following competency standards:

* CHCCS404A Facilitate family intervention strategies
* CHCCOM4B Develop, implement and promote effective communication techniques
* CHCCS405A Work effectively with CALD clients and workers
* CHCDFV1B Recognise and respond to domestic and family violence

The Working with Men Training Course develops a strong foundation for community welfare/ health workers who work with men and family relationship issues. The course combines theory and practice and will focus on developing the necessary knowledge and skills that workers need when working either individually or in groups with men.

Participants who successfully complete the above competencies will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

The five days training will involve the attendance at a National Men and Family Relationship Services Forum at Darling Harbour. Assessment tasks will focus on work based tasks and reflection exercises. The 2nd block will utilise a wide range of learning techniques. These include experienced-based exercises, action methods, personal reflection, role-play and small group scenarios.

Facilitators: Andrew King and Steve Sweeney. Andrew King is the UnitingCare Burnside Training Coordinator with eight years experience in working with men. Steve Sweeney is an experienced practitioner with extensive experience in working with men.

When: Tuesday, Wednesday 19,20 October (Men and Family Relationship Services Forum at Darling Harbour) & 23,24,25 November 2004 from 9.00am to 4.30pm

Location: 1st block involves attending the 2004 Men and Family Relationships forum at the Sheraton Four Points, Darling Harbour, Sydney on 19-20 October 2004.

2nd block involves attending a 3-day training block located at the Cumbrae Building, 7 Blackwood Place, North Parramatta

Cost: $400.00. This cost does not include the registration for the Man and Family Relationship Services Forum at Darling Harbour
