Speaking at today's 'end the lies' rally in Sydney, Greens Senator Kerry Nettle has accused the Prime Minister of lying about his decision to go to invade Iraq and lying now about the dire consequences of that decision.

"John Howard tells us that Australia is not at a greater target for terrorists since we invaded Iraq, that the situation for Iraqis is much improved, and that the invasion was necessary to protect us from terrorist threats - these are all lies," Senator Nettle said.

"Tens of ten thousands of Iraqis have died thousands more are dying at the hands of coalition forces in Iraq.

"To curry favour with George W Bush John Howard took us to an illegal and immoral war against the people of Iraq, killing tens of thousand of innocents in the process.

"On this Saturday The Greens urge the Australian people to remember John Howard's lies and vote him out of office.

"The Greens are calling for the troops to be withdrawn form Iraq immediately, and humanitarian assistance to the Iraqis to be significantly increased.

"The situation in Iraq is not improving. Since the 'handover' to the Allawi regime attacks on US and Iraqi government forces have risen to over 70 per day and coalition bombing of Iraq homes continues.

"This election John Howard has focused on attacking The Greens. A vote for The Greens this Saturday will show him that increasing numbers of Australians reject his dishonest, callous and self-interested approach and support a honest principled alternative."
