(PNEWS) A Vision for America

Putting People Above Profits

George Soros, one of the richest men alive, provided the much needed financing to keep "liberal" radio's Air America viable when it appeared as if that new network would fail. He is pumping funds into other groups, which have as their goal the ousting of George W. Bush.

George Soros does not own a private plane. He has no islands, no yachts, no ranch in Texas, no old and valuable art collection.

Soros has given or pledged $10 million for America Coming Together, $2.6 million for the MoveOn.org Voter Fund and $3 million for the excellent Center for American Progress, which many of you have heard about but I bet didn't know it was a think tank founded by former Clinton chief of staff John Podesta. These groups are working against Bush, however they are not necessarily working with the Democratic Party.

George Soros knew George Bush long before he became president. George Soros owned one-third of Harken Energy when it bought Spectrum 7, Bush's failed oil company in 1986. He said, "We were buying political influence. That was it. He (Bush) was not much of a businessman." George Soros has spent millions of dollars to defeat George W. Bush, but says it is not a vendetta. "He's a figurehead and was elected as a public face. He fills a role. It's the forces behind him that I consider to be sinister," says Soros.

George Soros, 73, is not the richest, but one of them, who made most of his fortune in currency speculation. He was a surviver of the Holocaust, fled Hungary for London in 1947, and then 9 years later to New York, and became rich in America. In Hungary his family survived by posing as Christians.

He gives a lot of money to promote "open society" around the world.

"He paid for construction of a municipal water filtration system in besieged Sarajevo; gave the fledgling government of Macedonia a $25 million loan; and sent hundreds of Xerox machines into Hungary, where photocopying was controlled by the government. He helped underwrite democratic movements in, among other places, Czechoslovakia (1989), Slovakia (1998), Serbia (2000) and the former Soviet republic of Georgia (2003). (Rick Hamson, USA Today; 6/1/2004)

He says he is instrumental in funding opposition to George W. Bush primarily because of Iraq, which he sees becoming America's Vietnam quagmire and because he wants open society, the antithesis of Bush policies, -- and "open society" is his pet project. He has also written a book, "The Bubble of American Supremacy," which is described as a "no-holds-barred attack on what he sees as the hubris of American policy."

Soros in his message he has personally been delivering to university campuses "charged that between the Sept. 11 attacks and the invasion of Iraq, Americans turned from `victims into perpetrators.' The war on terror, he said, has claimed more innocent victims than the terror attacks themselves." (Hampson)

Soros does sound like a typical liberal, though undoubtedly a very rich one - but whoever said liberals can't also be rich? He believes in right to die, liberal drug laws, gun control, MORE cooperation with the UN, and other liberal positions.

Here is a list from the Soros Foundation of some of his many philanthropic contributions:

* $115 million after the fall of the Soviet Union to support Russian science. About $50 million went for stipends to scientists who had lost government support; the aim was to reduce the temptation to use their talents for destructive purposes.

* $250 million in 2001 to found and endow Central European University; its main campus is in Budapest, Hungary.

* $100 million to free education in the former Soviet Union from Marxist-Leninist dogma by buying new textbooks, training teachers and operating libraries.

* $12 million to promote high school debate programs in the USA (1998-present).

* $30 million to divide large public high schools in New York City into smaller, more manageable schools.

* $13 million (with an additional $37 million commitment) to finance affordable housing and building projects for poor South Africans, most of whom previously lived in shantytowns.

* $110 million over the past decade to Step by Step, an early childhood development program in 29 countries.

* $200 million to promote peace, tolerance, reconciliation and democracy in southeastern Europe and to strengthen the rule of law and independent news media in that region.

* $50 million in 1992 for humanitarian aid to the besieged Bosnian city of Sarajevo, including construction of a municipal water-filtration system and the restoration of electric power to the city's hospitals.

* $50 million to the Emma Lazarus Fund to combat unfair treatment of, and discrimination against, legal immigrants in the USA (1996- 2000).

* $125 million to the After School Corporation for after-school programs (1997-present).

NOW, I ask you, HOW MUCH has George W. Bush graciously given in millions of dollars to anything? ANSWER: ZERO..

"He (Soros) believes that by thumbing its nose at multinationalism, the Bush administration has frittered away its credibility abroad since Sept. 11. Having done more to build Eastern European democracies after the fall of Communism than any other individual, Soros now advocates a "Soros doctrine," in which the U.S. would team up with the United Nations and other multilateral groups to intervene early and peacefully in countries facing the prospect of social meltdown.

He has a domestic program, too. Despite an admitted aversion to giving his money to the government, Soros is pushing for more progressive taxation--read: higher taxes for the wealthy--including a return of the estate tax (an idea that would cost Soros himself billions, albeit posthumously).

Soros is a deficit hawk who believes the Bush Administration's deficits will stifle any economic recovery. He is furious about what he sees as the Bush administration's encroachments on civil liberties, regarding the Patriot Act and much of the broader domestic war on terror as an insidious threat to what he calls open society. Soros thinks that if the U.S. doesn't change its outlook, at home and abroad, the country is in grave danger." (Mark Gimein, Fortune; 10/27/2003)

George Soros believes his vision can be achieved with John Kerry. BUT, first we have to defeat George W. Bush.
