Aborigines used to cut steps in the trunk of these palm-like plants. I think that this plant has a few steps, however they stop before they reach the top. Maybe its fruit were last sampled in 1870 or there abouts - do not eat the fruit yourself, they are poisonous. You can see this plant on the Blue Arrow walk in Cairns Botanic Gardens. Its book name is Lepidozamia hopei
